The CHAP Fund aims to preserve a collection of works of art of particular cultural value pertaining to Haitian vodou culture, and to make this connection accessible to the public. These works of art are not the property of the fund itself, but come from a collection belonging to Swiss-born Marianne Lehmann, who has lived in Haiti for decades and has also initiated a local cultural foundation there.
In 2007, the Geneva Museum of Ethnography staged the widely acclaimed exhibition "Le Vodou, un art de vivre", displaying a selection of items from the Lehmann collection. The exhibition subsequently went on tour in Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden. Over the course of these exhibitions, numerous donations were received, which were then channelled into the CHAP Fund. Following the end of the touring exhibition, the proceeds are being used to build a cultural centre in Haiti, where the full collection can be preserved and displayed.
The CHAP Fund does not accept grant applications.
