CHAP Fund
founded: 2011
The CHAP Fund (Cultural Heritage and Art Production in Haiti Fund) aims to preserve works of art of particular cultural value pertaining to Haitian vodou culture and to make this heritage accessible to the public. The Fund supports cultural initiatives in Haiti which aim to foster, preserve and promote the Haitian culture in its broadest sense, including a specific focus on vodou heritage.
In 2007, the Geneva Museum of Ethnography staged the widely acclaimed exhibition "Le Vodou, un art de vivre", displaying a selection of items from the Lehmann collection. These works of art are not the property of the Fund itself, but come from a collection belonging to Swiss-born Marianne Lehmann, who has lived in Haiti for decades and has also initiated a local cultural foundation there. The exhibition subsequently went on tour in Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden. Over the course of these exhibitions, numerous donations were received, which were then channelled into the CHAP Fund.
